Space Coast of Florida

The Space Coast of Florida refers to a beautiful stretch of coast near Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. The Space Coast is comprised of Cocoa Beach, Merrit Island, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Titusville and Cocoa, all located in Brevard County, Florida.

Starting in the 1950's when the first missile was launched out of the region, this area has been linked to space exploration, shuttles and missiles. All of NASA's manned space flights took off from the Kennedy Space Center in the heart of the Space Coast. Today the Space Coast is still known for being the port to outer space. Visitors tour the Kennedy Space Center and get a feel for what it is like to be an astronaut.

Even thought the Space Coast gets its name from NASA's missions, it has so much more to offer. The beaches are pristine and the mild temperature makes it perfect for swimming, surfing, fishing and sun bathing. The Space Coast is the closest beach area to Orlando and the Space Coast beaches are popular with tourists and Florida locals all year round. Many cruise ships dock out of Port Canaveral on the north end of the Space Coast. In fact Port Canaveral is the second busiest cruise port in the Western hemisphere. The Banana river is perfect for paddling on a canoe or kayak to explore Florida's wildlife. Merrit Island is a protected wilderness area and it can only be seen this way. Golf is also very popular activity in Florida's space coast. In Florida, golf is a year round sport, but the space coast in particular has a variety of courses that are famed for their beauty and technological advancements.
